After mortgage rates were set in early September, the real estate market seemed to begin to correct itself as some homes, even those with million-dollar price tags and a long list of properties, sold for asking price or less.
Throughout Central Jersey, home buyers have picked up everything from a nearly new family vacation home in Summit to a stone castle on six acres in Readington.
Here are the best prices for selling a home in each Central Jersey county in September.
Union County: A $2,597 Summit colonial that is less than 10 years old
The nine-year-old Summit home sold for $2.597 million on Sept. 18, offering a charming family home at 248 Woodland Ave.
With six bedrooms and seven bathrooms, this large colonial across from Canoe Brook Golf Course includes a porch, two stories, a gas fireplace, a three-car garage, a backyard patio, and a master suite with its own living room.
Although the basement is full of amenities, it has a bedroom, bathroom, exercise room, media room, and another room.
The home, listed by Kim Cannon with Prominent Properties, sold for $2,000 over asking after it was listed in late July. Ten years ago, it sold for only 535,000.
Hunterdon County: A $2.05 million custom stone manor in Readington
A country-style manor made of hand-hewn stone became the home of a new Readington owner when it sold for $2.05 million on Sept. 20 thanks to Robert Beatty with Weichert, Realtors.
The four-bedroom, six-bathroom custom home on six acres at 57 Dreahook Road is surrounded by woods and offers lush views from an open floorplan, a slate patio with stone walls, and a sunroom with a terrace.
It also includes a kitchen with white pine cabinetry and black granite countertops, a library with cathedral ceilings, balconies in every bedroom, an entertainment area, four fireplaces, and a four-car garage.
An impressive residence sold for $300,000 below its asking price in June. Built in 2004, this home last sold for $238 in 2.38.

Somerset County: A $2.775 million English country estate in Bernardsville
An English estate at 7 Stevens Road in Bernardsville brought a mix of old and new when it sold for $2.775 million on Sept. 20 after being represented by Carolyn Fahey of Fahey Realtors.
Completely renovated last year, it has a unique aesthetic with modern amenities, set on six acres on a private road.
Behind its cement stucco façade, this place has 6 bedrooms and 6 ½ bathrooms, but the upper part of the house is just coming out. The house includes a large terrace with fireplace, as well as a pool surrounded by landscaped gardens.
But despite its beauty, the house spent some time on the market, as it was first listed in January for $130,000. Sellers spent just four months here, buying in September 2023 for $75,000 more than they just sold.
Middlesex County: Beautiful $1,695 Plainsboro home with great location
A charming home surrounded by a lush lawn in Plainsboro offered privacy and a central location when it sold for $1.695 million on September 16.
Located at 9 Hilltown Court, the apartment is just minutes from the Princeton Junction train station, Princeton University, Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center, and Whole Foods.
It includes five bedrooms and four bathrooms spread over 4,000 square feet.
The home sold for $30,000 over asking after it was listed in late July by Kavitha Gangavarapu from the MyOriginHomes Group of Keller Williams Princeton. Before that, it was last sold for $485,000 in 1999.
